Between the four walls of
daily routines, relationships, work, uncertainty,
anxiety, distraction and some ingratiation,
most fail to see how a day goes by.
How today becomes yesterday.
Most are fighting an enemy every day
they neither know nor wish to confront,
all in pursuit to arrive at a better place.
Let us call that place happiness or fulfilment.
A place where the chattering of the mind,
his problems and conflicts
shall cease to exist.
A place where he shall be understood and respected,
in ways he has always yearned for.
A place of hope, if you ask me.
He keeps riding different chariots of
money, power, fame, religion, family,
better company and some happy routines
on his journey towards
finding that place called happiness.
The question remains,
does anyone ever truly arrive there?
Does such a place of permanence exist?
I don’t think so, my friend.
The search never ends.
Most live under the quiet falsehood
that finding peace is about the journey itself.
If one were to pause for a moment
in their otherwise ordinary life,
and view it through the lens of honesty,
they would for the first time truly see –
How the unhappy thoughts of regrets,
anger and dissatisfaction
far outweigh the fleeting moments of
happiness in one’s daily lives.
A disingenuous life is what most lead.
Most undertaking in one’s daily life exist
to manage the loneliness one lives with my friend,
whether it is time with family,
being online, joining a religious or a social group.
A parent’s daily life
largely revolves around caring for their children,
one way or other.
If one had no children,
most parents would find themselves
face to face with an unfamiliar silence.
An idle and a dull life, to put it in words.
Perhaps most pursuits serve the same purpose –
To keep the quandary of existence
at a comfortable distance.
Rarely do pursuits originate from a
place of authenticity.
From dawn to dusk
most human lives unfold in similar ways, my friend.
Only the details may differ.
An individual lives in complete oblivion to themselves
and fully engulfed
by the worldly concepts around them.
This highway of daily living is all they know.
Red for stop and green for go is all they know.
Getting there first is all they know.
For the larger part of the day,
most are either extinguishing a burning thought or
chasing the next dose of their dopamine,
amidst a few brief moments of happiness.
This is how the vast majority
live each day of their lives
and never pause to truly see
how the day passes by.
And one day, a voice calls out –
‘It is time to go’.
All one can do then,
is smile back.
It takes a rare individual
to live in oblivion to the noise
and be awake to what is real.
